Spinal Injury

In the city of Atlanta, a spinal injury may result from any traumatic event. Spinal injuries are sustained most commonly in vehicle accidents and slip and fall accidents. A spinal injury may also occur when an athlete is injured during game play.

When damage occurs to any of the nerves in or part of the spinal cord, a person is said to have a spinal cord injury. These injuries can be relatively minor, but often they are severe, affecting areas of the body that are below the point of injury.

Symptoms of a spinal injury include holding the head in an unusual or unnatural position, numbness spreading down the arms or legs, weakness in the limbs or trunk, and difficulty with mobility. Other symptoms include shock, unconsciousness, neck pain, and loss of bladder or bowel control. Because spinal injuries can cause such severe issues, it is always recommended that a person who has been in an accident not be moved unless there is imminent danger to their lives.

If a person is suspected of having a spinal injury, emergency services should be contacted immediately. The person should not be permitted to get up and walk, and they should be kept still unless there is a danger to their person. For example, the person may need to be rolled to their side if they are vomiting or choking.

If you have sustained a spinal injury in an accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to compensation for current and future medical bills, lost wages and more.
